Hello! And welcome to Meld of Minds (MoM)…
This publication melds together minds that swim in the same fishbowl of human exploration.
It houses a collection of personal experiences, candid mental health struggles, personal growth stories, self-help solutions, science-backed studies of the mind and life lessons to help deepen your understanding of your own mind and the minds of others.
MoM is a little sanctuary, tucked away inside Medium. A safe place to share your thoughts and be an equally respectful and positive presence for others.
Steam wrapped me in a cinnamon and ylang-ylang shroud. Epsom salts cradled my muscles in gentle suspension. And water hugged my eardrums from any hindrance of the world beyond my bathroom.
I had been laying here for around an hour and couldn’t see myself emerging from this homoeopathic bath for at least another. I find that the horizontal excavations of baths often feel like being suspended in a dream. A brief pause from the mundane and responsibilities that can easily fill up the everyday.
When it eventually came time to change up the rhythm and motion towards the towel, I…
I’ve been writing in a professional context for 4 years and I still haven’t found my niche.
When I first started getting serious about writing as a full-time breadwinner, I felt that I had a lot to prove. I thought it necessary to earn bucketfuls of money from it to appease the memories of every person who ever smirked at me for saying I wanted to write for a living.
This was my first mistake.
I started by researching many writing niches, eager to learn what ones would suit me and that I can position myself as an expert in.
“…And they're off!
The race has begun. And we’re off to a flying start to the formidable ‘Deadline Dash’. Plans are gliding along the track as ideas manifest themselves through fluid wordplay. Yes, team ‘Like A Boss’ was doing fine work yet again.”
“Ah… but what’s this? Out of nowhere has sprung the ‘Perfection Police’ there to try and crash the party by using their opponent’s own weaknesses of fear, low self-esteem, and crippling self-doubt…”
“What will team ‘Like A Boss’ do to fend themselves against the inevitable blockade of the ‘Perfection Police’? How will today’s ‘Deadline Dash’ go down…?”
I know. The graphic is a bit creepy, right? Mission successful.
Ever wished you could turn back time and make better choices?
As I explained to Zulie, I’m a cripplingly honest person who would rather tell people up front what I have done and face the consequences than be another two-faced screen lurker. The internet is brimming with them nowadays…
So, in the spirit of honest confessions, here’s the scoop…
Rewind to sometime in the third quarter of 2020. …
So, here I am. It’s not even 9:30 am where I live right now and I’ve already been awake and online for close to 5 hours, have pitched to an online publication, have written and published a poem on Medium and am currently working on 3 drafts.
This is probably the most productive I have been in weeks…
And here lies one of the many major problems I’m currently facing: inconsistency.
These are others I’ve become aware of that may also be holding you back from being successful on Medium.
I wake up in a cold sweat at 4 am
Wounds whining within a mouth stabbed shut
I lament the losses I’ve brought on in spades
And the spade that dug out my latest rotten friend
I’m clinging to what remains
Whilst dreading its trials with an inflamed jury
Too many soldiers have been taken before their time
Now discarded shards, decomposing somewhere along a distant line
Those that remain need a white blanket to cover the dangers
Of a world that easily breaks them down
I’ve never had the strength to offer safe passage home
Only arriving in a tragic…
Since finishing my own 30-day submissions challenge, I have observed the journeys of many others doing the same, and have even become one of the publication’s new Editors!
Curating your own list of publications ahead of the challenge can prevent scrambling to find publications further down the line. As explained in my “things I wish I knew” story, it’s better to have alternatives at the ready just in case particular submissions get rejected.
To help those starting out, or even returning to the challenge, I have compiled a list of publications that are worth having on your radar before you…
Last night, I was loading up with mouthfuls of delicious chow mein noodles, which would inevitably feed my brain noodles. My mouth enjoyed the sensations of MSG-infused chunks of onion, beansprout, and assorted meats, woven into the slippery suckers now mingling with my mouth taste.
I have been watching my diet like a ravenous hawk since my recent health scare. And tonight I was able to fully embrace the delicious morcels of my Chinese takeaway as a treat — we all deserve treats every once in a while after all. …
